Chainsaw Blood
Blood fuels the engine; chainsaws cut through fear and death.
Chainsaw Man follows Denji, an impoverished teenager who fuses with Pochita, the dog-like Chainsaw Devil. This contract grants him the ability to transform parts of his body into chainsaws by pulling a cord in his chest. Unlike standard devil contracts involving bargaining for specific powers, this fusion is intrinsic to his existence after the yakuza killed him and he was revived as a hybrid. His transformation turns his biology into a weaponized engine capable of erasing concepts from existence.

Lore & Background
The series is set in an alternate late 1990s where Devils are born from humanity's collective fears. Denji, aided by Pochita, works as a Devil Hunter to pay off his father's debt before being betrayed and killed by the yakuza. Merging with the Chainsaw Devil allows him to revive; this unique hybrid can permanently erase the concepts of devils it consumes, including the Holocaust, AIDS, and nuclear weapons. The setting features Fiends (devils in human bodies) and Devils that reincarnate between Hell and Earth, except for the Chainsaw Devil which breaks this cycle.
In Their Own Story
After reviving as a hybrid, Denji is recruited by the Public Safety Division led by Makima to hunt the Gun Devil. Partnered with Aki Hayakawa and Power, he eventually learns Makima is the Control Devil seeking to dominate Pochita. The story follows Denji killing the Gun Fiend (Aki possessed) and being forced to kill Power, rendering him catatonic until he defeats Makima. In the second arc, Asa Mitaka contracts with Yoru, the War Devil, forcing her to hunt Chainsaw Man for revenge while Denji cares for Nayuta, the Control Devil's reincarnation.
Reader's Guide
Denji transforms by pulling a cord in his chest to become Chainsaw Man. He joins Public Safety under Makima but later becomes a student balancing life with Nayuta. In the second arc, Asa and Yoru clash with Denji while Fami (the Death Devil) manipulates events. Key moments include Barem destroying Denji's home, Denji giving Pochita control to devour enemies, and Asa sacrificing herself to let Denji kill Yoru. The narrative concludes with Pochita erasing himself to reset reality, leaving Denji in a new world where he meets an unpossessed Asa before departing with Power for money.
