However, contrary to popular belief, they do require fuel in the form of blood to sustain their transformations; without it, they cannot maintain their Devil forms or heal effectively. While they retain their human personalities during combat unlike Fiends, this power comes with a heavy burden; the constant presence of two natures within one body can be psychologically taxing, and their existence is often viewed with suspicion or fear by both humans and Devils alike.

Their primary role is to serve as elite combatants capable of taking on high-level threats that standard hunters cannot survive. Because of their rarity and immense power, Hybrids like Denji are often treated as assets by the government, though their treatment varies from partnership to exploitation. They operate under the command of Public Safety but retain a degree of autonomy due to their unique nature. Their goals are typically personal rather than ideological, driven by simple desires for food, connection, or survival, which contrasts sharply with the grand ambitions of Devils or the bureaucratic machinations of the government.

• Hybrids must consume blood to fuel their transformations; without it, they cannot sustain their Devil forms.
• The Chainsaw Man himself is the most prominent example, being a Hybrid who retains his human memories and personality.
• Unlike Fiends (such as Power), which are Devils possessing dead human bodies, Hybrids are living humans fused with a Devil heart, not biological DNA.
